The much anticipated meeting is over. Did we learn anything....not much. Thankfully Deepak was there and asked some great questions and offered his assistance to the Dr. in charge of Gord regarding getting his next MRI. Apparently Halvor Jonson does not want to deal with it so they asked for it to be done prior to leaving Calgary. THAT was the good news in the meeting - the fact they are talking about Gord and making plans. It may be early April before we are transferred which will probably work out just fine. Of course, knowing my luck, just because it was mentioned today we will probably be there by middle of next week. I will keep you informed...I promise.
All the therapists had their reports and all are pleased with his rapid progress. We have a very long road ahead but it is still very positive. Let's all work on Gord's right arm....he needs it to hold the hammer, darn it! Visualize him building something....anything and using that arm. Thanks.
I also had Gord typing on the computer but he only got out a few words and it was time for bed. We will try again later. It was interesting to watch. I am pretty sure he will be typing away with one hand before we know it. I just never know what he can do until I expose him to the situation, or thing.
Well, must go back and see how he is doing.
Love to all
Sheila
PS To Bernice and Ted.....thank you so much for your cards and notes and good wishes. We send love and good wishes back to you!!!!

Sounds like things are progressing in a postive nature. We all have much to be thankful for. Keep up the good work both of you. Hopefully if all goes well, we will come for a visit mid April. I have been printing and passing out the blogs for the less fortunate (people without computers:) Will pass this one on to Ted and Bernice. Take care, and we'll pray that spring comes soon so you both can spend more time outside! Much love and aloha, Evelyn & Richard

Hello Sheila and Gord:
ReplyDelete“Red” and I have been ‘off the air’ for awhile as we have been in San Francisco for yet another cardiac procedure…hopefully, the last. We are home now and thus far the ‘ticker’ is performing admirably with no post procedure indications of any returning arrhythmias…but it will take months of sustained sinus rhythm before we will feel comfortable in believing that it is finally behind us…the many previous disappointments preclude unguarded optimism.
This hospitalization period was also significant in that it provided a reality backdrop upon which to gauge what you, on a far greater scale, have been going through since January 5. Enduring a few days of hospitalization and medical procedures is one thing. But surviving the collateral ‘trauma’ consequential to navigating through the medical industry is another. As is fully yielding one’s sense of privacy, modesty and personal significance and, as is subordinating oneself to the dictates of often indifferent ‘professionals’ who don’t know you, and care not that they don’t. But, having to deal with all of this for consecutive weeks and months, as you have, challenges one’s capacity to comprehend how difficult it must be for you. Even the significance of this is dwarfed by having to deal with the initial unknowns about Gord’s medical condition and future.
And although it is difficult to fully realize what you have experienced, it is even harder to imagine how you have managed to do so with such stamina, focus, perseverance, and pointed good humor. Remarkable! Admirable!
In a prior message, you alluded to “people getting on with their lives” as indicated by the decline in comments. With conclusion of the initial medical crisis came commencement of the challenging personal rehabilitation work. The attention and participation of others will naturally peak, plateau, and then peak again with the achievement of significant milestones during the rehabilitation process. And, not unlike a community observing construction of a high rise building, most of the attention and commentary derives from the groundbreaking and topping-off phases of the project. The most important components, the hard construction work between the two signature events draw less attention. That is why your regular commentary on the blog site is so important to your community of friends and family, close and distant. Not only does it chronicle Gord’s progress, it keeps us all in tune with how you are doing, and for you, Sheila, it is a medium for catharsis. Do not dismay, we are all paying attention and our interest and our concern have not and will not wane.
As to the caricature signs you received…they are intended just as you have employed them, to stimulate your sense of humor and that of the medical staff., and to remind them that you not just another ‘case’, but real people. Also, they are intended to let you assess and ‘display’ your feelings and emotions, up or down, on any given day…don’t hold things in.
The small poster, “Gord Paddles Again in 2010…GPA-10” is just a goal statement…just one of many goals for all the hard work. (And no, there is nothing original in the artwork there…just the product of computer accessible graphics)
You remain in our hearts and minds

Sheila;
ReplyDeleteI think "Red" speaks for all of us in her note to you. We are all still with you and will be all the way through this "experience".
We love and care for both of you and continue to offer our silent prayers for Gord's full recovery.
See you in April.
Richard & Evelyn
Good on you Gord.
ReplyDeleteGreat to read that you are getting better.
I'll certainly concentrate on praying that
you get that hammer back in your right
hand again, and soon.
Love from Sally.
