Well, this was a big day today Sept 20th 2009. Gord approached the stairs to the lower dock with great trepidation. He was very cautious about the lack of handrails at the top of the stairs which I still need to get railed but after I helped him over this hurdle off we went down the stairs. He was thrilled, stopped halfway and said "Oh, it's been 9 months since I have been able to do this"...and then once again at the bottom of the stairs where it is like entering another world, he was ecstatic. We took a cushion and chair down for him and after getting him comfortable I ran UP the 54 stairs and prepared lunch , brought it down, and we had a little picnic on the water with Stacy and Danny.
Fiona, our Physiotherapist will be thrilled with this as she has been encouraging Gord to do this for a couple of weeks. It's done. Celebration time!!!
Just wanted to share these pics.
Lots of love

ReplyDeleteI guess stepping up that one step to the bedroom/bathroom "suite" in your new condo will not be much of a problem. I've got to be honest...I never thought that would be possible and was concerned. Look forward to seeing you there

Bravo Gord & Sheila! You two have made it happen; what an inspiration you are! Keep up the great work and yes a little walk on the airplane heading towards your dream destination "Maui" will seem like a piece of cake... Love you guys, Ron & Diane
ReplyDeleteBeen a little while since we checked in so it's fantastic to see the progress! Not really a huge surprise however with such a determined and supportive group. Keep working at it Gord and Sheila...as mentioned maybe Maui is not that far away!!
ReplyDeleteCheers

ReplyDeleteWell we are home!! It was great to see the good news on the blog. It will not be long before Gord is running up those stairs I am sure.
Well Your condo looks marvelous. You are going to be so pleased. I am sure the pictures do not do it justice.
Unfortunately that bull nosed tile did not all arrive so I could not do any cleaning as it delayed construction.
It was nice to me Ken. Also we ran into Sue and Ken so we said a quick Hello and hoped to get together for a meal but we ran out of time.
Everyone was asking about you and Gord.
Happy to see the stairs tackled I wonder what new acts of inspiration Gord will do next. Can't wait to see.
Take Care
