I am just preparing to depart for the Fanning Center to spend a quiet day with Gord. The days are getting easier to get through as Gord is gaining more independence in his wheelchair. I am a portable shoe store these days trying to find shoes that are comfortable for him to do his physiotherapy. With his right foot always being a little swollen, his regular tennis shoes just don't work. My quest has taken me to many shoe stores and now I guess I need to find out who outfits basketball players with BIG feet. I cannot believe I am looking for a wide size 14 now. Or perhaps an expensive size 13 not made in Taiwan. So you can see how my focus is starting to shift to getting all the things in place to make Gord feel more normal.
We love his new room and so do the visitors. We can actually sit around as though we are in a small living room and because it has a little hallway into it, we feel detached from the rest of the "Pod". The door almost shuts out one of our neighbours who has the most irritating hacking cough I have ever heard. And it is a constant noise...poor guy...I know he can't help it... but when I have frazzled nerves already he just adds to it.
All I have to report today is that things are moving along as well as can be expected. I am trying to encourage Gord to write with his left hand and that will be our homework today.
Have a lovely day everyone.....
Love
Sheila and Gord

Hi Sheila and Gord, We appreciate so much being able to keep up on Gord's progress. We feel guilty that all we can do from here is read the blog, and wish/hope for speedy recovery. I am still hoping to make an appearance in a couple of weeks

Hi Sheila,
ReplyDeleteYou are going to put an album together for Gord. Would it help youu if I did it on the computer? You could have people send me pics either hard copy or digital. I would put it together in any format that you would like, with or without captions.
I could start on it as soon as we get home. Only if it would be a help to you and Gord.
Keep up the fine work on the blog, we check it every day.
Bryan
Hey Sheila, it's Jim & Diane (Tyler & Kat)...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the updates, we haven't missed one and think of you and Gord daily. I wear a 14 wide and always get my dress and running shoes at George Richards at the Sunridge Mall (same side as Sport Check).
Take care and pass on a big "Hi" to Gord from us.
Hi Sheila & Gord,
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile since I have posted a note. Please do not assume we haven't been reading daily on Gord's progress. I like to call myself a "stalker". It's a term used for those who view your blog daily but just don't post a comment each time but are so happy to hear about all the progress and not so happy about frustrations you and Gord are experiencing during this crazy time. As I had mentioned in January we had only met in Maui for a short time but felt we had grown a freindship. We are so amazed at the progress that Gord has had that even though it seems like it will never be the same (it will!), it sounds like the old Gord is coming back to everyone and everything he loves so much. It has been a very crazy three months since we left Maui. We said aloha to Dave's mom back to England where at 82 she has had to move to a new cottage due to construction and I have lost my mother just a month a go. Our kids are growing older - Jessica 9 on Friday the 13th and Nick will be 13 on the 29th (he is wearing an 11 shoe size, can't swap with Gord just yet!). I am so happy to see the continued support and encouragement from all your friends and family. You truly have an amazing circle. Keep up the positive network and thoughts and know that we are "stalking" you daily with it all right back at you positive thoughts. Take care and all the best.
