Oh what a party! Jan 29, 2010

Thank you to all our friends who arrived during a tropical rainstorm to enjoy cake and ice cream on Jan. 29th in Unit 504. We once again reached an amazing capacity and I think got over 20 people in this unit - quite comfortably. It is nice to know we can accommodate so many in the event of a severe Winter Storm when we can't play outside.

This party was a total surprise for me. I was running around in my bathing suit, preparing for the Sat. arrival of grandson Jack and his Mom and Dad. I heard voices outside saying....Sheila are you decent???? I quickly threw on some shorts and became decent in one second. That's what I love about the tropics.

More pictures!

I think we are having the best year ever on Maui. I have never felt so comfortable doing what I am doing every day. We are so happy in our new unit that we cannot think of anything else we want. It's a good space to be in.

Enjoy the pictures. These are yesterday and today. The gals in the photo we have known since we started coming to Maui about 18 years ago. Susie, Sally, Maryann, Pam...thank you for coming to visit.

The kites are surfing right in the front of our condo. They keep whizzing past the window.

Makes me wish I could do it - they are having a blast!

Some days are diamonds some days are pearls

Sorry for the delay in writing on the blog but it seems like we were blown through a tunnel into another world where time stands still and every day is a week long. Doesn't make sense but that was what just came out of me this morning. We are on a roll of therapies and visiting and swimming and walking and going on tours and restaurants....so busy. Every day gets better and better weatherwise. I cannot believe our luck this Winter. The sun has shone every single day. We are very very lucky as at this time normally the Winter storms have arrived and there is rain rain rain. Not so this year.
Gord is continuing to do well. I see small progress every day which is a good thing. We have wonderful people who stay at the Kealia that are helping with walking etc. and all the extra attention is so amazing. It boosts Gord's spirits so much to have people other than me encouraging him. THANK YOU!
I am getting geared up to post more pictures in the next few days. Again, sorry for the long delay. I did not realize it had been so long until I opened the blog up today.
Hope everyone is well and happy.
Lots of love.

Jan 8 2010 - 3 days without the cane

Well, it looks as though Gord has nixed walking with a cane and is determined to not use it - at all. I have waited a few days to see if it would last but apparently on the morning of Jan 5th that was it! No more cane. He still struggles but I will continue to encourage the independent walking as long as it is safe. I will insist on the cane if the terrain is too uneven.
We had an appointment in Makawao yesterday with one of the owners of the massage school. Jim gave Gord a going over and was pleased with what he saw happening with the right arm and leg. We will continue getting massages to keep the muscles etc. in shape. I will join him on the next appointment.....and am I ever looking forward to it!!!
We also have started the process for some speech therapy which will begin next week. Jennifer has all Gord's materials and will figure out a program for him for the next couple of months. It feels so good to know that someone other than me will work with him. I find it difficult to be the disciplinarian (sp?) and it is better when a third party works with him.
All in all, we are slowly moving forward. Some days it seems a little TOO slow but I have to remind myself to be patient.
Have a good day everyone....

January 5, 2010

Well, today is THE day and we made it full circle. Gord is very aware of this 1st anniversary of his stroke. It is morning and we are just getting going and I am not sure how we will handle today. My original plan was to take a drive to Makawao and visit an acupuncturist that apparently is excellent. First I will do some research to see if this is a good direction to head in or if it is just wasted time. Walking on the beach is a bit tentative this past 2 days as we are having winds that kind of eat away at the sand and make it too soft to easily walk on. That's okay though because we have great hallways and stairwells for walking.
Yesterday we took a ride and found one of the great mysteries of our life in Maui. The famous "Jaws" was a very bumpy ride down a long dusty road but the arrival was spectacular. This is where the surfers are brought in to surf by waveriders . The waves can get to 50 feet high - which is expected today and tomorrow - apparently. We will NOT be going back to take pictures - ever. I will be happy to direct people to the turnoff though.
The other mystery I need to solve is this constant beeping I hear when I sit at the computer. It is really getting annoying! And speaking of computer, we have a webcam now so if anyone has Skype - call us! I think you just send your call to our email. gbosch@rttinc.com or sheilabosch@hotmail.com
Try it. It's fun.
So have a great day everyone. I know we will. I am so glad I chose "Life" when I was given the choice to make for Gord's survival. It was worth it.
Lots of Love

New Year's Day 2010

I just sat down to check emails and thought I would dash off a note to all our friends that read the blog. I feel an incredible excitement inside that we have all made it into the second decade of the millenium. Imagine....the year 2010.....I cannot believe how fast the past 10 years have gone by!

Gord and I have a lot to do over the next years and with your ongoing prayers and kind words of support, we will soldier on. I will report our progress to you and if anyone has any suggestions on different therapies to try....please let us know. I really feel a renewed energy to get Gord moving forward in a more concentrated and focused way. We have been holidaying long enough. Time for work!!!!

Wasn't that full moon last night amazing? That was a "Blue Moon" that happens every 19 years or so on New Year's Eve and every 2 years or so ordinarily. It just means that we have 2 full moons in the same month. Dec 2 and Dec 31 was this year's. It was so clear and bright last night....beautiful! We went to friends for dinner and returned home to the beach about 9pm. There weren't the usual fireworks on the beach this year. Not sure why.

Today is clear and sunny so I think we will go visiting. Pictures will be posted of our new activities in this New Year. Everywhere we go we are fed very positive information about others who have survived a stroke and recovered very well. The same comments surface again and again....patience and time....it just takes time.....and yes we do get discouraged some days but thank goodness for nightime and sleep. The morning always brings new hope and encouragement.

Actually, I will post a parting 2009 photo of Gord on the beach watching our friends surf a few days ago. This is a first for Gord to sit on a chair and observe! In the past he would perch for 5 minutes, have a quick chat and then move on to some project or other - rarely sitting for long - except perhaps a sunset with a cocktail.
We sincerely wish everyone a successful and healthy New Year!

Lots of Love

Sheila and Gord
