Jan 8 2010 - 3 days without the cane

Well, it looks as though Gord has nixed walking with a cane and is determined to not use it - at all. I have waited a few days to see if it would last but apparently on the morning of Jan 5th that was it! No more cane. He still struggles but I will continue to encourage the independent walking as long as it is safe. I will insist on the cane if the terrain is too uneven.
We had an appointment in Makawao yesterday with one of the owners of the massage school. Jim gave Gord a going over and was pleased with what he saw happening with the right arm and leg. We will continue getting massages to keep the muscles etc. in shape. I will join him on the next appointment.....and am I ever looking forward to it!!!
We also have started the process for some speech therapy which will begin next week. Jennifer has all Gord's materials and will figure out a program for him for the next couple of months. It feels so good to know that someone other than me will work with him. I find it difficult to be the disciplinarian (sp?) and it is better when a third party works with him.
All in all, we are slowly moving forward. Some days it seems a little TOO slow but I have to remind myself to be patient.
Have a good day everyone....
xoxo
Sheila

  1. Good going Gord. I am pleased to hear about your efforts and progresses. Those small improvements add up to big improvements over time. Sheila, thank you for posting the blog. I check in on it almost every day and am always happy to learn what is happening. We are back in Palm Desert after four wonderful weeks at home with the kids and families. We are into golfing again and today was great weather and the golfing was okay as well. There is always room for improvement in golf. Mel and Nancy
